Application Examples

Application Example 1:
Encoding of video and audio into video files and preparation of subtitles

Application Example 2:
Keying of open subtitles into SDI video without external SDI keyer

Application Example 3:
Keying of open subtitles into SDI video with external SDI keyer

Application Example 4:
Insertion of teletext subtitles into SDI video

Application Example 1
Encoding of video and audio into video files and preparation of subtitles
(Compatible with SD PAL & SD NTSC)
This solution uses the Hauppauge WinTV-GO2 PCI video in a window card to record video and audio into a Windows Media 9 file. This file can be used for preparation of subtitles. During recording of video the timecode must be burnt into the video so that when the video file is opened for preparation the timecode can be associated with every video image.

    Required configuration:

- FT-SUBTITLER STD / PRO
- PC with Windows XP Pro, 512MB RAM, 2.8GHz Processor, 40GB Hard Disk, 3 free PCI slots
- Hauppauge WinTV-GO2 PCI video in a window card
- Optional: Timecode reader: Alpermann-Velte PCL-PCI or Adrienne PCI-VLTC or USB-TC
The timecode reader is only necessary if preparation of subtitles will be done directly with using the tape and without recording the tape to a video file.
- Optional: To encode video files from an SDI video source the SDI video card Bluefish Wildblue AV can be used. See Application Example 2.

Application Example 2
Keying of open subtitles into SDI video without external SDI keyer
(Compatible with SD PAL & SD NTSC)
This solution uses the Bluefish Wildblue AV PCI card which can key subtitles into SDI video. The card passes through SDI embedded audio. This solution can not be used for broadcast applications because there is no SDI bypass when FAB Subtitler software is not running. The Wildblue AV card can also be used to encode SDI video with embedded audio into a Windows Media 9 file.

Required configuration:

- FT-SUBTITLER PRO
- PC with Windows XP Pro, 512MB RAM, 2.8GHz Processor, 40GB Hard Disk, 3 free PCI slots
- Bluefish Wildblue AV PCI card
- Timecode reader: Alpermann-Velte PCL-PCI or PCL-PCI D or Adrienne PCI-VLTC or USB-TC
- Optional Hauppauge WinTV-GO2 PCI video in a window card

Application Example 3
Keying of open subtitles into SDI video with external SDI keyer
(Compatible with SD PAL & SD NTSC)
This solution uses the Bluefish Deepblue LT card with SDI Fill & Key outputs to control an external SDI keyer (i.e. Eyeheight DK-3). This solution can be used for broadcast applications because SDI video is passed through when FAB Subtitler software is not running.

Required configuration:

- FT-SUBTITLER PRO
- PC with Windows XP Pro, 512MB RAM, 2.8GHz Processor, 40GB Hard Disk, 3 free PCI slots
- Bluefish Wildblue AV PCI card
- EyeHeight DK-3 SDI Downstream Keyer with FB-9 Flexi-Box Chassis
- Timecode reader: Alpermann-Velte PCL-PCI or PCL-PCI D or Adrienne PCI-VLTC or USB-TC
- Optional Hauppauge WinTV-GO2 PCI video in a window card

Application Example 4
Insertion of teletext subtitles into SDI video
(Compatible with SD PAL only)

This solution uses the FAB Teletext Data Generator FT-DGS 4 to insert teletext subtitles into SDI video. SDI embedded audio is passed through. This solution can be used for broadcast applications because SDI video is always passed through, even in case of failure of FAB Teletext Data Generator.

Required configuration:

- FT-SUBTITLER PRO
- PC with Windows XP Pro, 512MB RAM, 2.8GHz Processor, 40GB Hard Disk, 3 free PCI slots
- FAB Teletext Data Generator FT-DGS 4
- Timecode reader: Alpermann-Velte PCL-PCI or PCL-PCI D or Adrienne PCI-VLTC or USB-TC
- Optional Hauppauge WinTV-GO2 PCI video in a window card
